Year End Banquet
Deep River and Area Minor Hockey Association celebrated a successful 2009/2010 season with a banquet at the Chalk River Lions Hall. A potluck supper was followed by team introductions and awards. The Tyler Findlay award, given to the final-year Midget applicant who is respected by his team mates, contributes to his community and is a good overall athlete, went to Jordan Walsh, while the Stephane McGillis award for the most promising young official went to Stephane Horne.
As well, Midget players in their third and final year of minor hockey were presented with a farewell gift from the Association.
Pictured receiving Knights watches are Brad Keyes, Aaron Romaniszyn, Jordan Walsh, Ethan Kasaboski, Mike Hogue, Andrew Bowes and Craig Plaice. Missing from the photo: John Holland, Mike Cadieux, Scott Mirault, Jon Thompson and Zac Caron.
Trainer of the Year recognizing high standards and integrity in the field of hockey training was awarded to Lorrie Gauthier.
DRAMHA would also like to congratulate three former Deep River players, Stephen Cooney, who currently plays for the Ottawa Valley Titans, Luke Magnan, who currently plays for the Upper Ottawa Valley Aces, and Brandon Riopelle, who played for Pembroke?s Major Midget team this season. All three boys were selected by the Pembroke Lumber Kings at the Central Hockey League draft held in May in Gloucester.
Although summer weather is here, planning for next year?s hockey season is always ongoing. You can register your player at any time by mail or using the drop box at the Deep River Town Hall, or attend a registration night in Deep River or Chalk River in July. Watch the NRT or the website www.dramha.com for details.
Annual AGM - May 13 2010
The Deep River and Area Minor Hockey Association is holding their Annual General Meeting this Thursday, May 13 at 7 PM in the mezzanine at the arena. The Association is in need of conscientious volunteers to step up and assist the executive through the 2010/2011 minor hockey season. If you have a few hours a month to spare and wish to make a difference please consider offering your time to DRAMHA.Here are links to the minutes from last year and our Constitution. The AGM is an excellent forum to bring up any concerns or comments you might have. Please review both documents and come on out to the meeting.
**New this year - Members attending the AGM will be eligible for a 25% discount off the cost of a single registration for the 2010/2011 season.
Looking for Volunteer Hours??
If you are a high school student or happen to know a high school student looking for volunteer hours, Minor Hockey could use your help. As a fundraising activity grocery receipts are collected from Valu-Mart. The total amount of the receipts needs to be added up before we can return them to the store. An ideal job for students. If you are interested please contact our Fundraiser Chair, Kerri McQuigge (613)589-9758
Volunteers Needed!
The 2010/2011 season is approaching. DRAMHA is looking for parents available to take on a volunteer role as team Trainer, Coach or Assistant Coach. Participating as part of your child's team is a rewarding experience, and doesn't need to involve a huge commitment or a lot of your time. The more people who step up to volunteer, the lighter the workload. If you are interested in participating in a formal capacity with DRAMHA as a Coach, Trainer or Assistant Coach, please contact any executive member.A coaching application form is available as a .pdf or .doc.
